We are deeply saddened by the tragic and senseless death of George Floyd last week. Our hearts go out to his family and to all who are suffering. As an association of Philadelphia civil defense attorneys, we believe in the equal application of the law and in holding people accountable. Because we are attorneys and officers of the court, we have a special responsibility for the quality of justice; and as citizens and human beings, we recognize the anger, pain and frustration being felt in Minneapolis, Philadelphia and other cities and towns throughout the country. We support the rights of all people to peacefully gather and protest, to call for justice and to seek change. However, we do not, and cannot, accept the destruction of our communities and institutions. We implore those involved to stop the violence and looting that has occurred over the last several days and ask everyone who lives and works in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection, and all Americans, to come together now to listen, understand, and affect positive change.
