PADC May, 2020 Member of the Month:
Christopher Scott D’Angelo, Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads LLP

I am a partner at Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads LLP, and Chair of our Business Disputes & Products Liability Practice and Chair of our International Practice. My practice emphasizes litigation and counseling in the fields of business and business torts, intellectual property, class actions, products liability and mass torts, construction, and insurance, including in my role as national counsel for several major U.S. clients and my representation of foreign concerns in the U.S. and U.S. concerns abroad.

It has been and is helpful and rewarding to participate in defense organizations such as PADC. PADC is an important organization that provides a great service both to its members through networking, CLE’s, referrals and camaraderie, as a resource, as well as to the law and the legal system, providing a voice of balance and reason.

What I find especially rewarding in the practice is helping clients in achieving their goals, whether it is in the planning stages or risk management, or in dealing with disputes before or in litigation. Several projects that were particularly interesting over the years have been as a liaison to and working with the EU Commission and members of the European Parliament with regard to proposals for collective redress or class actions in Europe, as a founder and member of the faculty of the International Corporate Counsel College, and in work with the American Law Institute in the creation of various Restatements (particularly the Restatement (Third) of Torts: Products Liability, Restatement of Apportionment and Restatement of Torts: Liability for Economic Harm and several ongoing projects). Likewise enjoyable have been being on the Boards or as chair of substantive committees of bar associations or defense or manufacturers’ counsel organizations, and as a speaker or author on law-related topics in the U.S. and abroad.

Out of the office, I enjoy travel (which certainly works well with clients and activities around the globe), sailing and photography. My wife and I have four grown children, and while the pandemic has interfered with visiting them, at least Zoom or the like have been helpful for family gatherings, especially for the three who with their spouses live out of state.
