In Memory of JoAnne A. Epps, President, Temple University

Members of the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel are heartbroken by the sudden passing of JoAnne A. Epps, President of Temple University.  From her beginnings working as a clerk in Temple’s bookstore, Epps reached the highest office of the University. Many of our members will fondly remember President Epps as an energetic and approachable Professor, Associate Dean, and Dean of Temple Law School, before she ascended to University-wide offices. President Epps was not just a leader, but an innovator in legal education.  As a teacher, Epps focused not just on turning out effective advocates, but on nurturing professionals who serve as stewards of the legal profession according to the highest moral and ethical standards.  Epps was a champion of diversity in academia and beyond.  She received numerous awards and accolades for her scholarship and civic engagement.

President Epps touched the lives of so many people.  We are beyond saddened at her passing.  Her work in legal education, diversity and the advancement of civic values will live on.  While we mourn her loss, PADC will continue to honor the important and profound legacy of this magnificent leader, scholar, teacher and friend.
